Program overview:
VisaCash.org has not been able to find any of the principles involved in the Cariplo Visa Cash tests at the Bormio Ski resort in Italy, however we have gleaned from the back of the card (in a rough translation as to how, what and where the card could be used). None of the first 14 cards issued were disposable, all cards were reloadable. This would mean to obtain a card you needed to have an account. Because the cards were reloadable the consumer would need to reload value into the Visa Cash card at the Cariplo Bank branch or (and we are assuming) at a Cariplo ATM location at the Bormio Ski resort. It is not know if the 4 Visa Cash cards in the "Flower" series are disposable or reloadable as Gemplus was the manufacturer and did both. We will know once we complete the translation on the back of one of the Flower Visa Cash card. Below is the translation of the top part of the back of CAR (1) as to the Visa Cash terms and conditions for use during the test:
"This paper (card) is issued by Cariplo on the occasion of the experimentation of the "electronic purse" Visa Cash, at Bormio in Valtellina. (Valtellina is a valley region in the Alps in Northern Italy)"
"The carrier using this paper (card) accepts the conditions as to they apply:
* Any (No) reimbursement in case of theft or loss
* Valid for the solo use for exercises (transactions) at locations that display the Visa Cash symbol in Bormio.
* If brought back (returned), the residual and reimbursable value on the other face of the paper (card) (will be provided) on presentation of the paper (card) to the Cariplo branch (office) in Bormio."
